Drawing has always captivated me. As a student, I loved and revered many
painters and sculptors, but I was always fascinated by their drawings. I saw
them as elemental and honest. I came to prefer drawing for my own images.
By working into the paper with dry media rather than in canvas with paint, I
feel more connected to the surface. The pastel chalk is applied by hand and
rubbed into the paper. By actually touching the surface as I draw, I become
part of the space I am creating.
My drawings have been described as evocative, ethereal and feminine; qualities
I have seen as extensions of myself and of each one of us. They can create a
calming effect or let you appreciate a detail you may have never noticed. If my
work evokes emotion in the viewer and provides them solace, it gives me
validity and purpose to my artistic expression.
